Spencer Bonnie – Executive Director 

Spencer brings a breadth and depth of insights, perspectives, knowledge and experiences from 23 years of championing youth development and collective impact at both the local and national level, most notably with the YMCA.  From the very beginning of his career, he has been most passionate about one thing: helping young people overcome whatever barriers stand in their way to realize their full potential and thrive in school, work and life.  Spencer is thrilled to have the opportunity to pursue that passion through Achieve Brown County’s work in his home community.

Ann McCotter – Director of Continuous Improvement

Ann McCotter, Director of Continuous Improvement, leads our efforts to drive system change within a project management focus. Prior to assuming the CI Director role, she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA, Continuous Improvement Coordinator with Achieve Brown County. She spent the majority of her twenty-plus-year career in strategic HR leadership roles within multiple industries. Her favorite days at work are spent working to support positive change efforts. As a life-long learner, she is thrilled with the challenge of diving into the non-profit, education and healthcare sectors as she works to support the collective impact work of Achieve Brown County. In her free time, Ann enjoys volunteering throughout the community and within her church, connecting with friends at local coffee shops, and cooking meals with her family that include fresh produce from her organic garden and the farmers’ market.

Leah Thompson – Community Engagement Manager

Leah joined Achieve Brown County in February 2016 as staff support, office management, and community relations. She has a background in office management, organization, staff training, virtual technology, Human Resources, as well as a variety of managerial responsibilities. As the co-chair for an organizational volunteer affinity group, she worked closely with the team to maintain web content, plan events, and any other task needed to keep the group on track. She has been actively involved in a variety of volunteer activities related to church and her children’s school.

Christian Roovers – Community Information System (CIS) Manager

Christian joined the full-time staff as the Community Information System (CIS) Manager in July 2019. Prior to assuming the CIS Manager role, he served as an AmeriCorps VISTA for two terms as a Continuous Improvement Coordinator. He has a degree in Psychology from St. Norbert College.

Christian is a musician and composes for piano, Native American Flute and drums. Each month Christian plays music for cancer patients as a volunteer with the Bellin Expressive Arts in Medicine (BEAM) Team and co-leads a drum circle at the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Brown County. He loves nothing more than family, friends and the Northwoods.

 
 
 
 

Mary Klos – Senior Researcher

Much of Mary’s career has been spent doing market research, forecasting and strategic planning for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation. More recently, she has worked as a consultant helping utilities and states across the country to evaluate their energy efficiency programs.

Along the way, Mary has helped build local community by being a Girl Scout leader, a soccer coach, a Destination Imagination coach, a Sunday School teacher, the local coordinator of the SHARE food program, and a regular visitor to inmates in the Wisconsin Correctional system. Mary is thrilled to be working where she can put her decades of experience in data analysis toward a good purpose – helping all kids achieve success in their careers and personal lives.

Orpita Nilormee VISTA – Data Coordinator

Orpita serves as a Data Coordinator at Achieve Brown County (ABC) through AmeriCorps VISTA. Additionally, she teaches Epidemiology and Statistics at University of Wisconsin- Green Bay. She started her career as a registered dentist in Bangladesh. To learn more about disease prevention, Orpita earned a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Epidemiology from University of Memphis, TN, where she worked as a research assistant for approximately three years.

She is very excited to have the opportunity to work at ABC’s research team which support Brown county children from cradle to career. She enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Bailey Schmid VISTA – Continuous Improvement Coordinator

Hello, My name is Bailey Schmid, I am an AmeriCorps VISTA with Achieve Brown County. My role is working as a Project Team Lead for the FAFSA Project Team to help develop strategies and solutions for increasing the FAFSA application rate of those who live in poverty. I am a 2019 graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, where I studied Communication with emphases in Journalism, Public Relations and Social Media Strategy. My passions for community development, website and social media revitalization as well as various forms of communication derived from my creativity and need for adventure as a kid. I am very excited to serve as a VISTA and to hopefully provide a positive impact for the Brown County community. 

Ajai Meeks VISTA – Marketing and Communications Coordinator / Community Engagement

Ajai is an AmeriCorps VISTA, serving as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator/ Community Engagement  at Achieve Brown County. She is excited to have the opportunity to reach the members of her community and spread awareness of the work that Achieve Brown County is doing. Graduated from Wayne State University in May, she received her degree in Public Relations. Ajai has experience in child development, social media, sports writing, youth education and sports. Prior to joining ABC she was an Activity Facilitator and camp counselor in Detroit high schools. She enjoys seeing children succeed and being the best they can be. Ajai hopes to help carry out ABC’s mission throughout Brown County’s community. In her free time she enjoys helping others, staying active in sports, and cooking. 

Sarah Oakley VISTA – Continuous Improvement Coordinator

Sarah is serving as Achieve Brown County’s Early Childhood Project Team Lead through AmeriCorps VISTA. She graduated in Spring 2017 from UW-Madison with a degree in Psychology and Certificate in Criminal Justice. Previously, she worked as a researcher with the Infant Learning Lab at the Waisman Center studying how infants and toddlers learn language. She’s excited to continue in early childhood development with Achieve Brown County. When not at work, Sarah enjoys singing in NewVoices, reading, learning languages, and spending time with her fiancé, Brandon, and dog, Milo.

Kennedy Metoxen VISTA – Continuous Improvement Coordinator

Kennedy is serving as one of the Achieve Brown County’s Continuous Improvement Coordinators through AmeriCorps VISTA. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with a degree in Journalism, Advertising and Media Studies, emphasis in Public Relations and a second major in American Sign Language. While attending college in Milwaukee, Kennedy spent a lot of time exploring the city and volunteering in the Milwaukee Deaf Community. She enjoys spending time with family, friends and her yellow lab, Murphy.
